You’re A Runner - Me and My Drummer.
I’ve always had a pathetic weakness for non-English speakers who make screamingly cheesy pop music in English. Think: Nena, Peter Schilling and Alphaville in Germany, Zemaria in Brazil, a-ha in Norway and Michael Learns to Rock in Denmark.
It gives me a warm, moist feeling in my belly that this obsession of mine will seemingly be fed forever by the Germans.
I present to you, Me and My Drummer. This particular song has been a favourite for a solid two months now.
What I like most about it is the slightly disjointed timbre of the lyrics - like someone singing ever so slightly off-tune. Take, for an example, this bit:
You’re a jumper!
Do why can you can wanna kill yourself?
Doesn’t a hipe not appear as high as it did before?
Crumbled hopes, a failed career
all this just don’t fit you my dear.
It’s the Continental European attempting to write English poetry. I suppose it helps that the King’s isn’t my first language either…
Anyway, I trust this will bring as much pleasure to you as it has to me.
