New York, New York (Live in Copenhagen) - Ryan Adams.

Three things happened after I bought the recently released Ryan Adams Live After Deaf vinyl boxset. Firstly, it forced me to get the record player out, dust it off, and get it serviced. Secondly I had to replace the amplifier I blew in high school. I managed to get a nice old JVC from a top spot in Goodwood. The shop owner expressed her joy that “it was going to a good home, and not headed into Khayelitsha”. Ahem. I then had to rearrange things in the house to fit the new amplifier and record player - we’ve been exclusively reliant on iPods and a SoundDock (both tiny, albeit competent) since we moved into our house three years ago.

Luckily the boxset was stuck in customs for over two weeks then, just so that I could get all of this sorted in time for it’s actual delivery.

It all sounds like a misson doesn’t it? Was it all worth it? Absolutely. You might not believe me, but listening to New York, New York (and the rest of the boxset) on vinyl is pure joy.
