Wedding Song - Tracy Chapman.

Just over ten years ago, I started a student job working the evening shift in a book store. The manager was relaxed, and allowed the staff to play their own music in the store. Around that time I was completely in love with Tracy Chapman’s Telling Stories album, and it made for good bookshop listening, so I played it often when I was on shift. I remember remarking to a fellow staff member that one day, when I got married, I’d play Wedding Song at the ceremony. The fellow staff member rolled his eyes.

Ten years later, and the wedding I imagined then, is happening in just one week. Although I still love it to bits, I can appreciate that Wedding Song is not ideal for walking down the aisle to (too long), and not really first dance material either (too slow). So, the fellow staff member and I will have to squeeze it in somewhere else. Rowan Eva still rolls his eyes at me all the time, but at least these days he gives me a big kiss afterwards, instead of telling me to go and alphabetize the kids’ section. Who would have thought?
