Unfortunate Fool - Richard the Third & Nonku Phiri.

With its body-gliding bass groove, trip-beat rhythms, and sensuously swaggering vocals, this hypnotic track insinuated itself onto my Cool & New playlist from the moment I heard it on a Soundcloud mix of African music, right over here.

Nonku Phiri is a young singer on the club circuit, as yet unsigned, not that that matters much in the age of Soundcloud, and Richard the Third is a deejay and remixer of note, as well as a play by William Shakespeare. Both Richard and Nonku are from Cape Town, which strikes me as a little odd, because in this track they perfectly capture for me the essence of South Africa’s greatest, hippest, most dynamic city, Johannesburg. But maybe that’s just me. I hope you enjoy this song too, wherever in the world you may be.
