I’m a foreigner living in South Africa. I try to get back home once a year to remind folks what I look like. Last time I was there I sang this song in a honkytonk in Nashville, Tennessee. As I stepped off-stage the barman told me it’s rare these days to hear someone sing this tune on a Friday night. Even though Music City’s polished herself up a bit since Waylon and Willie, it’s still a town of long-standing tradition and working musicians. When I get homesick for my country, this one always gets me.
